Spring 2024 | Professor: Christopher Chenier
This class challenged me to think critically about the role of design in everyday life. We explored how objects, big or small, reflect and shape human values, behaviors and systems. I learned how design connects to social, cultural, and political issues through the courses readings and discussions.
We looked closely at how objects are made, used and understood in context. Our final was to write an 7-10 page paper about one singular object that is valuable to us. It was an interesting experience to focus so closely and think so critically about one individual thing. I left this class with a deeper understanding of how design is never neutral and how even the simplest object can tell a bigger story.
