Fall 2021 | Instructor: Julia Randall
This was the first college-level art course I took, and it gave me a strong foundation in observational learning and visual thinking. In the class, we explored the fundamentals like lines, shapes, volume, gesture, light, and composition, using a lot of different materials and subject matter. The The class was structured around in-person studio work, with regular critiques to help us improve and reflect.
The course emphasized personal progress over perfection. As someone who came in with very little drawing experience, I found that the focus on growth helped me develop my own unique style and encouraged me to trust the process of mark-making.
Our final piece was a life-sized drawing of ourselves, drawn with charcoal and using a mirror, not a printed out picture.
